If you are over 18, with or without a high school diploma, you may attend. If you are under 18 and have a GED or have passed the CA high school proficiency exam, you may also attend De Anza. If you are a junior or a senior in high school, see our checklist for high school students. For more information about who may attend De Anza, check the residency page.

- I am an international student. Can I attend De Anza?
Applicants who wish to apply to De Anza College as an international student on an F-1 visa, please contact International Student Programs and refer to admission information specific to international students.
- How do I apply?
If you are a new student, complete the online admissions application.
- Go to www.deanza.edu
- Click on the Apply Now button (available about two months before each quarter starts)
- Go to the bottom of the next page and click on Login
- Choose De Anza Application for Admission
- Answer the questions and submit the application. If you have taken classes at De Anza, but have not attended for one quarter or more, you will need to reapply.
- What if I don't have a Social Security Number?
You don't have to have a Social Security Number to apply, but if you plan on applying for Financial Aid, you will need to provide an SSN. If you are an undocumented student, you can call 864-8722 for more information about how to apply and whether you qualify for in-state fees under AB540.
- When do I need to turn in my application?
The online application is generally available up to two months prior to the beginning of a quarter.
- Do I need to take an assessment test to be accepted? If so, how do I schedule a time to take the assessment test? Although tests are not needed to be admitted, all new college students must take an assessment test in math, English, and/or science if they are planning to earn an AA/AS, certificates, and/or transfer. (International students are also required to complete assessment.) Test scores are used to see which class level is best for you. No appointments are necessary. Check with your high school for scheduled on-site testing dates or check the Assessment Center Web site.
- What if I have taken similar assessment tests at other community colleges? Can I transfer other assessment tests scores as a substitute?
No. We do not accept assessment scores from other colleges. We also do not accept SAT scores. Acceptable Advanced Placement (AP) scores may waive specific tests. To find out more, see the Assessment Center Web site. You can get your test results online by logging into your student info.
- What happens after I apply?
After you apply and complete the assessment test, you will receive an e-mail with your registration date and more information about Counseling 100 (Orientation to College).
- How do I choose my classes?
If you are a first time college student entering in the fall quarter, and/or planning to earn an A.A., certificate, or transfer, sign up for Counseling 100 (Orientation to College) in the summer. International students are also required to enroll in Counseling 100. Students who attend Counseling 100 during summer session may register before other new students, and will receive help choosing courses during orientation. If you do not attend Counseling 100, you will be able to register online or on the phone on your registration date.
If you want to know what classes you need to graduate or transfer, see a counselor/advisor in the Counseling Center, or check the certificate and degree requirements in the College Catalog.
- Do I need to sign up for Counseling 100?
Yes, if you are a new student who has not earned at least 30 units of college course work or an A. A., A. S., or higher degree. See the Schedule of Classes for a list of Counseling 100 courses.
- How do I sign up (register) for classes?
On your registration date you will be able to register online or on the phone. Choose your classes from the online or printed schedule. Login to the De Anza registration site (My De Anza), read the instructions and click on "Login" and then "De Anza Registration System."
- Where are the classes listed?
Classes are listed in the Schedule of Classes. Choose the right term (fall, winter, spring, summer) and search for classes by department. Printed copies of the class schedule are also available in the De Anza Bookstore for $1.10.
- Where is information about courses, majors, and programs?
You can find out more about De Anza degrees and certificates, or review the De Anza catalog. Transfer students should check www.assist.org for appropriate transfer courses; a counselor/advisor can also help with this information.
- I'm interested in career information. Where do I find out more?
The Career Center has career descriptions, job placement information, and much more. In addition, the Workforce Education program offers a wide range of career education courses.
- How much do classes cost at De Anza?
Students who are California residents are charged a $13 per unit enrollment fee and miscellaneous fees. Other fees apply to nonresidents and international students.
- When do I need to pay my fees?
Payment in full is required at the time of registration and when adding subsequent classes. Students need to pay their fees within 5-calendar-days grace period after registering for classes or maintain a balance of $100 or less to secure wanted classes. Unpaid class(es), if total fee balance is more than $100, will be automatically dropped for nonpayment up to the Wednesday before start of term. Once dropped, students will need to re-register for the class with no guarantees that any preferred times and dates will be available. International students have different payment requirements. Check with the International Student office for more information.
Students with any unpaid balances will have a registration hold and will be unable to register for future terms or receive a transcript until all fees are paid.
There are several ways to pay your fees at De Anza College depending on your personal convenience and physical access to the college. Payment may be made: online, by phone, fax, U.S. mail, or in person.
- Where do I go to get help paying for college?
Financial Aid is here to help eligible students. Visit the Financial Aid Web site or office for more information. Note: International students are not eligible for State and Federal aid, but are eligible for scholarships.
- When is the last day to drop a class or get a refund?
See the Academic Calendar for important dates and review the Refund Policies and Procedures. International students should be aware of specific deadlines for the international program.
- Do I have a counselor?
Specific counselors are not assigned to De Anza students. You may, however, make an appointment or drop by during drop in sessions to meet with a counselor. The Counseling Center is located on the second floor of the Student Services building.
- Who helps me with my graduation or transfer?
When you first begin attending De Anza, you should meet with a counselor to develop an Educational Plan. The Educational Plan lists all the classes you need to meet graduation or transfer requirements.
If you want to know how far along you are toward a degree or certificate, or see if changing your major makes more sense, you can request a degree audit from Admissions. Download the degree audit request form (PDF).
Once you are within a quarter of completing your major requirements, usually the winter quarter before you graduate or transfer, you should meet with a counselor to review your Educational Plan and complete transfer or graduation paperwork.
- What is an Educational Plan and how do I get one?
An Educational Plan is an overview of your major and educational goals, and the specific classes needed to meet that goal. To create an Educational Plan, make a counseling appointment.
- How do I get my grades?
Grades are available on the online registration system or by calling the STAR phone registration system at 408-777-9394.
- How do I get a copy of my transcript?
You can order a transcript online, by fax at 408-864-8329, by mail, or in person at the Admissions & Records Office. You cannot order a transcript by telephone.
- How do I get enrollment verification for insurance or my employer?
De Anza College has authorized the National Student Clearinghouse to provide enrollment and
degree verifications.
All degree and enrollment verifications by outside agencies need to contact the Clearinghouse at the addresses below.
Students may also request enrollment verifications in person at Admissions and Records.

De Anza has many helpful tutoring resources, special courses, and labs. Check out the:

Yes! You may qualify for Financial Aid, EOPS, and other special services. Drop by the Financial Aid office and check out the other services.
- How do I buy a parking permit?
You can buy your parking permit online when you register. Just click on the Student Parking link (under account choices) after you have logged into MyDeAnza. You can also place your parking permit order and go to the cashier on campus to pay in person.
- Where do I buy my books?
You can buy your textbooks and a variety of other items at the campus bookstore located in the Student Services and Community building. You can also buy your books online.
- If I get sick at school or have health questions, where do I go?
De Anza's health center is located in the lower section of the Hinson Campus Center. Read more about health issues and De Anza's health services. If you have to miss a class, notify your instructor by phone or e-mail.
