Take a class about sustainability Check out the many sustainability-related courses offered at De Anza. Learn how you can incorporate sustainability into your major area of study, whether it's business, science, humanities or creative arts.

MealsChoose local and/or organic foods. Eat less meat. Shop at a farmer's market. Join a community garden. Use biodegradable plates and utensils, or better yet, bring your own reusable fork.

EnergyTurn
off the lights when you leave a room. Use natural light and warmth from
the sun whenever possible. When it's hot, enjoy cool shade from a tree. Dress in layers so that you can be comfortable inside your classrooms and workspace.

Waste Minimization

Reject. Reduce. Reuse. Recycle. Rethink how your purchases impact the
environment. Use a reusable container for your water. Choose products
made from recycled materials. Compost what you can.

Pollution Control Reject toxins. Choose to use natural products. Properly dispose compact flourescent light bulbs and e-Waste items, such as batteries, cell phones and computer parts.

Water UseRefill a reusable bottle with water from the tap or drinking fountain. Choose low-flush when appropriate on dual-mode toilets.

Landscaping Take
time each day to appreciate your natural surroundings. Listen for the
tune of songbird. Enjoy the seasonal changes of the trees. Visit the Environmental Studies Area to learn about different California native habitats.

Be Engaged
Be empowered by staying informed on sustainability issues. Make your
voice heard. Be the change you want to see in the world. Join a sustainability club or committee at De Anza and/or organization off campus. Sign up for an environmental news service.
